Maremma

Maremma is still the land where the old men tell ancient legends sitting on the steps of characteristic country-houses , or in front of the crackling fire of the fire places in the winter evenings.
It is the land that saw the raids of Saracens , still living in the legend of the "Bella Marsiglia" , the young Maid of the Marsigli Senese family abducted in 1543 by the saracen pirate ARIOMEDO BARBAROSSA on the beach of "Cala di Forno" (Uccellina mountains).
It is the land that Michelangelo Merisi (called Caravaggio) crossed in the last days of his wild life ; the maverick artist ... born in 1573, died on the beach of Porto Ercole , killed by malaria: it was july 18th 1610.

The word "maremma", evokes marshlands, herds of wild cattle, woods rich in game , men with the faces marked by the sun riding on horse-back across the lowlands.
Maremma is the land where the man still lives a life to his measure and this life is strongly bound to the tradition , to the legend and to the history. The life outside along the coasts near the pine-woods , along the hillsides ,along the sides of the mountains , induces to the pratic of sports and Maremma offers traditional horse rides, tennis courts, riding-schools , polo playgronds golf courses cycle-tracks diurnal and nocturnal races courses, sail contests.
